Yes - A visa is required for travel to Madagascar

A valid passport and missionary visa are required for travel to Madagascar.

Passport Requirements:

Original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay in Madagascar, with at least one blank passport page available for Madagascar visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Madagascar visas.


Madagascar Visa Application Form:

One original Madagascar visa application form. After placing your order, fill out the application form included in your Visa Application Kit.


Photo Requirements:

Three recent, identical, 2 x 2 passport photographs, in color, front view and with a plain/light background.

Washington D.C.: You must provide two recent, identical, 2"X2" passport photographs, in color, front view and be taken against an all-white background.

OR - you can upload a photo when you place your order, instead of providing physical passport photos.


Other Forms:

Resume, photo, and copy of any applicable diploma (plus translation into French)


Letter Of Invitation:

A letter of invitation from the host organization or sponsor in Madagascar explaining the relationship to the applicant and the purpose of travel to Madagascar. In addition, the letter must indicate the length of stay, place of stay, who will be financially responsible for the applicant, and host’s name and contact information.

Washington D.C.:
Volunteer Employment Authorization: Instead of the invitation letter, you must obtain a Volunteer Employment Authorization (Work Permit) from the Economic Development Board of Madagascar.


Business Letter

Two letters (one in English and one in French) from organization or sponsoring company in the US, on company letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant’s status/position held in the organization, clearly stating the purpose of visit to Madagascar. The business letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant and must provide detailed contact information in Madagascar.


Proof of Travel Arrangements:

Computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or travel agency or copy of airline tickets.


Hotel Confirmation:

A copy of confirmed hotel reservations or a letter from inviting host is required if they are providing accommodations to the applicant.


Criminal Record:

A recent (within 3 months) Police report or good conduct record (along with notarized translation into French) provided by local police department.

Washington D.C.: You must provide one copy of a police report issued by your local police department within the last six months.


Medical Requirements:

An International certificate of vaccinations is required for entry to Madagascar. Included must be inoculations for: Yellow fever, Cholera, Hepatitis A, and Malaria.

  • A copy of the host's National ID or certificate of residence
  • Certificate of the inviting organization
